Hello,
So I am new to this graves thing.
I have always had problems with high HB, sweating, anxiety, feeling completely out of control and when I was 17 I was treated for it for a while but decided to stop taking the meds. Obviously the doctor didn’t make that much of a fuss about the condition and I just decided to stop and I was a VERY WILD teenager and that was the end of that. Fast forward to being 21 just having had a baby and going completely mental! Lost so much weight, was exhausted, couldn’t sleep with the mind just going 10000000000 miles/hour but everyone just attributed it to being a new young mother and the troubles that came with having a baby while doing your bachelors in engineering. I have always been a GREAT loving caring mom so PND was out of the picture.
Fast forwards to being 30 having had my 4th baby. I lost 8 kilos in 2 weeks, was so weak that I couldn’t get out of bed, hands and legs tremor, 10 bowel movements a day, hair falling more than leaves in the autumn,…... They actually did an MRI to rule out more serious conditions until they saw I had hyperthyroidism. This was 25/08/14
TSH: < 0.001 0.02<TSh<1.4
FT4> 142 4<FT4<40
FT3> 65 0.5<FT3<13
TSI > 250 TSI< 69
Needless to say I started PTU instantly and after a week was put on a stronger medication, which I have forgotten the name, and gave me an allergic reaction so I went back to the PTU.
End October values were:
TSH the same
FT4=42
FT3= 16
SO kind of normal… Kept taking my meds, put on 5 kilos which is bugging me a lot but I still have very horrible concentration and anxiety problems.
I was just talking to my supervisor who has scheduled a meeting with HR and my boss to determine whether or not I should continue to do my job. I told him about my Graves on Monday and you can imagine my surprise when I heard about this meeting.
HE just mentioned that I needed a one year review in February anyway so they are doing this unconventional yet very formal pre-meeting to set some goals to see if I can reach them before the February meeting so we can determine whether or not to fire me! Let me state that I am a researcher for university and my job entails reading A LOT which I just cannot do right now. I cant focus or concentrate at all!!!!!!!
Anyone went through this? Anyone had horrible problems concentrating even with the hyper under control? Can graves still give symptoms even if your hormone levels are normal?
Will I ever perform like I used to? Any tips?
PLESE HELP! I DON’T WANNA LOSE MY JOB!

Hi:
Sorry you are worried about the weight issue. For many of us (moi including) have had it where we have poor concentration problems and anxiety while our thyroid levels are still off as well as weight gain.
I cannot recall how much PTU you are taking and how often? If you could let us know, we can figure out the next steps. I would also do a search at the: elaine-moore.com for articles and ask her for suggestions about the work issues you are having.
