I guess I have finally reached "normal" in thyroid disease land 18 years later.

Three labs going and 5.5 years post op I am very close to mid range on both Free tests and have <.10 TSH due to antibodies and have a DO who can deal with no TSH so LIFE IS FABULOUS! I seem to be able to tweak myself with minimal medication adjustments and can stop the double doctor routine to get enough meds.

I post this to give others hope.

Even without "normal" labs life for me is still better on replacement rather than ATD's.

Thanks for ALL the support throughout the years from everyone on Mediboard.

This is g-r-e-a-t news, Rose - congrats!!!!

I can understand your relief since I felt the same when I met my current thyroid doc, an internist.
(she is the 5th doctor from whom I sought care)

I will not deny she's made an occasional comment here and there that made me a bit nervous
so I "hit the books" in anticipation of additional conversations that just never happened :)

And, a couple of times she's mentioned wanting me to see an endo and I told her "no, no
more endos" - lol

Now that I've "armed" myself with several more books on hypothyroidism, I think I can
convince her to keep me under her care 'cuz the books confirm she is doing things
right......faggetabout TSH :)

What a difference a doctor can make - huh?

Absolutely! This is the reason I posted - changing doctors until you find one who will work with you is key to feeling your best with thyroid disease.

There ARE doctors out there who are willing to work with us - we might just need to kiss a few frogs along the way.

I'm not going anywhere mmtzcass -

Hi Rose :)

Congratulations on your good result! Just wanted to say that I wholeheartedly agree that life on replacement (for me) is a big improvement to life on ATD's!
Thyroid (or lack of) issues have taken a back seat for me in recent months due to other serious health problems (unrelated I think...) but I'm glad to hear you are doing so well. Your story was a big inspiration to me as we had followed similar paths and I'm so happy to read things are good for you!

Take care and wishing you continued good health!
Louise xx

Rose,

That is great news to hear you deserve it one question is it the combination of T4 and T3 you take that has you in a better place?
I still struggle daily with up and down labs having to adjust dose every time I have my labs done.

I wish I could say that having a TT is better for me than life on ATD's but for now I can't with the right help and treatment and someone who will precribe me T3(cytomel) I know I would be feeling better than I am.

Long may your good health continue.

I still find that I have to adjust slightly up or down and even though the lab report looked good I have been receiving more than the usual "chill out" requests from the family so I am tweaking back a bit on the Cytomel.

SusieQ {{hugs}} used to tell me about how she sometimes would take a pinch of Cytomel dust some days to keep things running smoothly and I used to think she was crazy but I now find myself in the same position. I am down to 10mcg daily plus 1/4 pill a few times a week. If I take that 1/4 pill every day then I go a bit hyper - mostly bitchy and abrupt my family tells me + I have been having hot flashes without any sign of menopause for a few months now.

The difference in my treatment has been the DO I've seen since mid November - he completely ignores TSH and as long as I am within range of the Free T-4 and Free T-3 he keeps my med doses the same and I have plenty to tweak up or down. He didn't even care about my Free T-4 this time but I asked for it as I had tweaked my Unithroid up 1/2 pill a week or (62.5mcg)

"Range" is awfully big for me and I am learning just exactly where I need to be "normal".
